METRO PPC youth groups
What is this service?
METRO PPC runs two youth groups for young people living with or affected by HIV.
Crib meets on the first Saturday of every month from 12pm to 5pm at METRO Vauxhall. Reach meets on the third Saturday of every month from 4:30pm to 8pm at Trinity Church in Tooting Bec. We talk about issues affecting young people, including issues around HIV. Sometimes we have trips to the theatre, bowling and the cinema.
Is this for me?
For a young person to access the youth groups, they must be aware of either their HIV diagnosis or a family member’s HIV diagnosis. If the young person is not yet aware, we can provide advice and support with disclosure.
How we make a difference
In July 2017, 15 young people from our Crib and Reach groups together with 4 METRO staff went on a 5 day residential trip to the Brecon Beacons in Wales.
It was a chance for young people to visit somewhere new outside of London, have a break from their home lives and take part in many outdoor activities offered by the centre. We went kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, zip wire and hill walking. We did archery and raft building. In the evenings, we had a quiz, sang songs around a campfire, told stories and did a scavenger hunt.
Our young people really enjoyed the experience. They built friendships, learnt about teamwork and pushed the boundaries of what they could achieve.
