Fck Equal HIV Prevention Campaign

Fck Equal

Fck Equal is our new campaign targeted at men who have sex with men (MSM) with three key aims:

  • To ensure that men have equal access to information about the increased risks of HIV infection in unprotected sex
  • To encourage men to make informed choices about safer sex, take equal responsibility, be equally protected Fck Equal
  • To promote safer sex and condom use

What is Fck Equal?

The campaign involves an explicit animation with the message that using condoms reduces risk and makes sex equal.

The campaign is calling for safer sex equality between men to prevent HIV transmission including:

  • equal access to information
  • equal protection
  • equal responsibility
  • safer sex

Why Fck Equal?

HIV transmission between men who have sex with men is high and continues to rise.

Unprotected anal intercourse carries a very high risk of HIV transmission and the risk is greatest for the receptive partner/'bottom'.

The campaign draws on international research that shows that receptive partners/'bottoms' are at least 7 times more likely to contract HIV through unprotected anal intercourse (UAI) than insertive partners/'tops'

We think it is important that men know this so that they can make informed choices to protect themselves and their sexual partner/s.

METRO's own local research shows that over half of men surveyed did not know or were unsure whether or not there were increased risks for receptive partners in UAI. The figure increases to 56% of men engaging in more risky sexual behaviour.

Safer sex reduces rates of HIV transmission and provides protection for both partners.

What can you do?

I support safer sex equality between men & want men to know about #HIV transmission risks #FckEqual & stay safe

If you are a man who has sex with men make sure that you use condoms and lube in anal sex and get tested regularly for HIV. Condoms and lube when use correctly are 98% effective in protecting you from HIV or other STIs.

Once you've had an opportunity to look at the new HIV campaign video please spend an extra minute completing the evaluation form so we can take your feedback on board for the next similar campaign.

The help and understanding I experienced from everyone I came into contact with whilst using the Metroís services was amazing.

Michael - Counselling

I gained a huge amount of help from the counselling service and would like to thank the service for offering so much support.

Simon - Mentoring

By discussing things at such an intimate level with my mentor, I really came face to face with some of the reasons why I was taking chances before.

Kwasi - Mentoring

During the 6 month programme, I developed a close relationship with my mentor. Knowing that I would have to talk to him honestly about what I did in the previous 2 weeks somehow forced me to be safe every time I had an encounter.

Joan - First Point

Thank you so much for taking time to listen to me and truly understand how I am feeling. This is the only appointment I've had regarding HIV that didnít feel rushed.

I felt so relieved to have a named First Point worker who I can call if I need to be referred to a particular service.
